Concrete Paradise

Tired of running from rent-a-cops and fighting for your right to skate? You can shred carefree at my favorite skate park in Dallas.

Scion Park
Scion Skate Park is a 33,000 square ft. concrete paradise located at the Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park.

What’s Hot?

·         FREE
Nothing beats a free session.

·         No waivers or pads required
I stop reading the rules and start shredding after seeing “USE THIS FACILITY AT YOUR OWN RISK.”

·         Great hours
8 am – 10 pm, Nov. – Feb.
8 am – 11 pm, Mar. – Oct.

·         Diverse park design courtesy of Site Design Group
The website boasts of “deep bowl skating, plaza skating (handrails, fun box, vertical ramps, pyramids, banked ramps, stairs) and above ground features.”

·         Clean and inviting
Scion isn’t covered in graffiti or broken bottles, and usually other riders aren’t jerks.

Not so hot

·         Full-body exposure
Without a roof or walls, there’s no place to hide. And the elements don’t care about how badly you need your skate fix.

·         Two-wheelers
People on BMX, scooters, and rollerblades can create more headaches than the concrete.

·         Crowds
Expect to wait your turn on the weekends and after school.

Honorable Mentions

Eisenberg Skate Park in Plano is expensive and requires a waiver and helmet, but is home to a 12 ft. vert-ramp and a foam pit!

A session at Alliance Skate Park in Grand Prairie is reasonably priced, but the park doesn’t open until 3pm during the week.

The ESPN X-Games Skate Park at Grapevine Mills Mall is clean and well-lit, but your session is open to spectators and hecklers from the mall.

  1. Nice review. I do not skate but I think you covered enough and helpful information for other skaters to know. Even though this is one of your favorite parks, it's good that you do not show bias towards it. Nice use of headings and subheadings, it made the post really easy to read.

One suggestion though, I think you should have focused more about the Scion Skate Park alone and made separate blog posts about the other parks.
